i don’t really want to spend money cuz those memory cd’s don’t work on me, i’m serious about learning but how do you if no one around you speaks spanish?
p.s can u learn just online(eventually speaking and learning from your mistakes?)

You can learn a significant amount online and through the library, but you will likely only be able to recognize and possibly understand a new language, but not produce it.
When a person learns a language, she learns it in both a passive and an active way. By studying and observing, but not producing the language (by either writing or speaking to someone), one gets practice at the passive side, but not the active side. I taught myself Finnish via the internet and books, and when I arrived in Finland, was placed in a very high level comprehension class but could not speak!
I’d recommend finding a penpal, listening to online newscasts in the language you want to learn, volunteering to help Spanish speakers learn English at your local library, or any other methodology to encounter the language a little more.

I want to learn Spanish, I know only the very basic words but I want to become fluent in speaking it. I work in an industry that it would benefit me to know how to talk in Spanish. Where should I start? Books? Online courses? school? Thanks
Yea take classes. Especially one on pronunciation. If you nail that down, and use the phrases correctly (ie i hurt myself- me heri instead of heri yo), you’ll sound like a native Spanish speaker. =-)
